During onboarding there's a lot of information to take in. However, from the start it's important to make it clear that it is not optional. This means that you need to make it clear to the new team member that before you can continue, they need to understand what is required of them.

If you continue without testing their understanding, you risk them getting busy, putting it off, and never internalizing what is important to you and your team.

Set up a Google Form, Typeform, or just paste questions into Slack and wait for their answers. The length and amount of detail in this quiz is up to you, but it should cover the breadth of concepts that you want the dev to be 100% clear on before moving forward.
